Our Story

The seeds of what was to become the Mio Baptist Church began in the late 1950's when a small group of men and women met on the high banks of the AuSable River in Mio. Led by Pastor Clare Olin from nearby Grayling, this fledgling group of believers rented a small building near the intersection of M33 and M72 in Mio and started regular worship services.

On July 1, 1960, the first pastor, Robert Erickson, was called and on April 6, 1961, 38 charter members officially were united, and Mio Baptist Church was formed. In September of 1961, a building site was purchased at the corner of 5th and Vine Street, and construction soon began. The first service was held in the new facility on December 22, 1963.

In the mid-1990's, the church experienced much growth, and it was evident that a new building and location would be needed for an effective community outreach. After much discussion and prayerful consideration, the church approved the purchase of 10 acres for the site of the new building. Groundbreaking took place on April 21, 1999, and construction soon began. An exciting dedication service was held on September 10, 2000. The current facility has been a wonderful blessing to members as well as the entire community. We praise the Lord for His goodness here in Mio!
